Meet Olamide Olawale, one of the many Fashion Designers who will be showcasing his designs at the AFWN, Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2016.
In this interview, The creative director of EMINENCE 1129 talks about his fashion designs and showcasing at this year’s edition of the AFWN

1. Why did you decide to become a fashion designer?
I started fashion as a result of my ability to create images, designs which I believe if well crafted/made will make a fashion statement.
2. How did you start fashion designing?
Am a self-taught fashion designer and I think God worked it out on me, being a graduate of Graphic Design really helped when I started with the aid of sketches and illustrations.
3. What do you enjoy most about designing clothes?
I enjoy turning my illustrations into a wearable designs.
4. What’s the most challenging part of fashion designing?
To conceptualise designs that no one has never done or made before
5.Which fashion designers inspire you the most?
Jason Wu, the Taiwanese Canadia designer. His designs are appealing, well cut out pattern with strong detailed work of art.
6.How will you rate the Fashion Industry in Nigeria right now?
As an emerging sector, the Nigeria fashion industry is doing well but this could be better. Currently, the industry is more active in the area of creativity while the production and distribution has not well utilized. I see a better and a fulfilling tomorrow if more runway shows like Africa Fashion Week Nigeria, the Nigeria Fashion Week, Lagos Fashion and Design Week, Music Meets Runway and more are organised to bring viable foreign investors into the industry.
7. Does your work reflect your personal fashion style? Can you describe your style?
My style is the reflection of who am, simple but elegant
8. Have you showcased at previous editions of The Africa Fashion Week Nigeria? If yes, how will you describe the experience?
My experience at the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2015 was awesome and it was wonderful. My focus was celebrating our indigenous batik adire eleko which I got from the ancient city of Abeokuta. Indigo was the dominant colour for all my designs. My designs were timeless and they showcased our cultural heritage.
9. How excited are you about showcasing at The Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2016?
Am very excited because my showcasing at Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2016 is made possible by Daviva Fabrics, Africa Fashion Week Nigeria is the best platform for an emerging brand like EMINENCE 1129 to reach out to the entire world.
10.What should guests expect from you at The Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2016?
