1- Why did you decide to become a Fashion Designer ?
I never felt like I had a choice. For me, Fashion designing is a field for highly creative people. From a rather young age, I’ve been surrounded by textiles as a result of my mother blooming textile business. Because of this early exposure to the textile industry, I developed an unending love for clothes and by this I began to overindulge in this love, shopping quite frequently. Through shopping quite frequently, I was rather frustrated with basics clothes and it just seemed natural to want to translate my ideas into fashion by creating my own brand.
2- How did you start Fashion Designing ?
Started from the dream of creating unique stuffs and the sense to combine colours and fabrics well. From my college days, i will go get fabrics and explain to a local tailor what I wanted to sew. After sewing 20clothes, I decided to organize a Fashion Show at the one of the biggest Restaurant in Dakar (Senegal) to Launch my brand. With a good address book, I managed to invite friends, parents, celebrities, tv, radios to attend the fashion show. After the show, the TV presenter and celebrities asked to wear my designs during their show and other media invited me to speak about my collection. Things started to become serious and I moved to Morocco to attend << Lasalle College of Arts >>, an International Canadian school.
3- What do you enjoy most about designing clothes ?
I enjoy the sketching by creating unique stuffs, the construction of the design. The detailing is very challenging, also the stitches and finishing. When you miss something little, it affects the whole design. At the end of the making, what gives me the most joy is seeing my inspiration looking good on humans.
4- What’s the most challenging part of fashion designing ?
It is something that needs to be worked on constantly as well as keeping a creative and very much a business mind. Know your market, your contacts, considering the climate and be business savvy. When I am with a client, I always
remember that a problem is always going to be my problem. I’m prepared to work very, very, very hard to make them feel special with my designs.
5- Which fashion designers inspire you the most ?
Olivier Rousteing (Balmain), Karl Lagerfeld (Chanel), Zuhair Murad.
